Pre-Tanning Tips

What you do in the last 48 hours before your spray tan appointment is crucial to the outcome of your tan, therefore it is important nofollow every direction outlines to ensure the best results. During the week of your appointment, be sure to book any spa service, manis, pedis, massages, and fitness classes all BEFORE your spray tan. Once the solution is on your skin, activities that may cause you to sweat or swimming, soaking in a tub while getting a pedicure, and oils from massages can severely damage the tan and can leave you with streaks. If the tan is for a special event such as your wedding, this first part is very important. Since it may be hard to juggle booking everything you need to at once, please try your best to make sure that your spray tan is on the last of your list of things to do, but remember, no less than two days prior to your event!

At least 48 hours before your appointment, you want to start exfoliating your skin. It is important that you wash away all of your dead skin or old spray tan to ensure an even application. Spraying over an old spray tanning may increase the likelihood of a blotchy tan. Be sure to shave, tweeze and wax during this time as well.

Caring For Your Airbrush Tan

As natural looking, smelling and feeling as your new tan is, we must still remember that your spray tan just sits within the first layer of your skin and can easily be ruined by your normal day to day activities. Here are some important tips to keep your spray tan lasting long and fading gracefully:

- Please be sure to shower within the range your technician instructs you to. This is important as showering too soon may cause a blotchy or undeveloped tan (which can easily look like a disaster) and showering too late may result in a blotchy and/or overdeveloped tan. Most solutions excluding rapidly developing solutions (shower in as soon as 1 hour for some) develop in an 8-12 hour time range from the application of the tan. Showering at 8 hours would mean the tan will be in the lighter stages of its development, 10 hours for medium and 12 hours for darkest your customized tan would reach. This would have been designed by your technician to ensure that you can have the option of wearing all 3 without looking like an orange!

- When showering while you are wearing your spray tan, you should try to avoid high pressure showers and hot water. Bathing should be just a quick splash under the coldest water you can stand. Your first shower should also be without the use of soaps/shampoos, as this may cause you to wash off parts of the tan. Your first shower when you may use soap should be at least 24 hours after getting your tan. When you do use soap, you should use your hands and avoid loofahs, bath sponges or brushes. For body wash, it would be safest to use something gentle and as natural as possible. Be sure to avoid ingredients such as soy, sulphates and oil.

- As soon as after your first shower, you should moisturize your body 2-3 times per day. For moisturizer, it would be best to avoid products containing petroleum, mineral oil or artificial fragrances as these ingredients tend to strip the spray tan. The more natural the ingredients of your moisturizer is, the better it is for the tan.

- Please avoid saunas, steam rooms and engaging in any activities that may cause you to sweat. Sweating will cause the tan to look spotty.
